Lunchtime meanies 😩

J

Bit of a rant, question about common kids diets.

My son just lost his two front teeth so I packed him hard boiled eggs for lunch. He normally eats a sandwich but said he has problems biting it so he asked for something soft. He also had baked red lentils- the Tomato basil flavored Harvest brand snap peas.

His classmates gathered around and say "eew he's eating eggs! He's smells like eggs! Look at those weird sticks!"

He said it didnt bother him because he told them they weren't the ones eating it so they can mind their own business.

A staff member came over and told them all to sit and quiet down and eat.

This isnt the first time they've bothered him though. Sometimes he takes hummus, guacamole or tomato and avocado salad, salmon salad or a vegetable salad with olives and they all comment how weird it is.

He always packs from home because of dairy allergy and his school doesnt provide safe alternative food other than nut free.

There is another kid who always packs lunch but he said she always has plain bread and ham with bag of chips and juice so that isnt "weird" and they dont bother her other than showing off to both of them their "better" school food, like pizza and chocolate milk.

He eats pretty much everything, and I try to vary his diet with healthy things but he requests a sandwich most of the time so he doesnt get made fun of.

But are eggs, avocado and hummus really that weird though? Do most kids never try these things??
