What are these?

Half of the apples on my tree have these strange things on them.  Does anyone know what they are? Are they still edible?

No I would not eat those they look like they have bugs in them. You should call a local arborist and have them come out to look at your tree and see what your options are. I've picked apples my whole life never have I seen this before.

My grandparents have several apple trees and one of them have worms every year from that tree. This looks like worms. I wouldn't eat them.
