My Positive Induction Birth Story

Anna

I was 41 weeks and 1 day and cried for days because I was dreading induction. I had been having contractions for 3 weeks EXCEPT the week of my due date. Lost my mucus plug at 38 weeks and had done every thing known to man kind to bring baby here. Nothing worked!

I wanted my baby to come on his own and I was scared of Pitocin contractions and induction failing! I was 42.1 and 1 cm dilated, 60% effaced. I went in at 5 PM to start Cervidil.

Now that was pretty uncomfortable when they inserted it, not going to lie. Nobody told me that was going to be painful! After a couple of hours, I started getting contractions about every 10 minutes. They started picking up and got pretty intense around 12:30 AM. I labored through them until about 3:30 and they offered me Nubain to take edge off. I accepted it after going back and forth and that really helped me be able to deal. I progressed and got pretty uncomfortable. I didn't know I by was in actual labor so I didn't want to ask for the epidural too early. I didn't even call our doula because I thought she had time. When she took the Cervidil out at 5:45 I was miserable. She checked me and I was 7-8 cm dilated! I was shocked to have dilated that much with no Pitocin. The Cervidil knocked me into labor. Got the epidural an hour later (transition was horrible!) and smooth sailing after that. My water broke on its own after the epidural. The epidural slowed me down by the pain relief was so nice. I don't need the Pitocin but agreed to a little at the end to get me complete. I labored down for over an hour and never really felt too much pressure, just a little burning. He was really low and I pushed for 25 minutes, maybe 7 rounds of pushes with a mirror which really helped me see what to do. My surprise gender baby boy, Graham Taylor was born born later that afternoon at 5:22 PM and was 7 lbs 4 oz. It was a great experience! My husband was such a trooper and helped me so much.

I had a 2nd degree tear but it's not been bad so far. I'm so blessed and grateful! Can't wait to experience the journey of motherhood!
