Leaving my alcoholic husband

Hello ladies I need help, I been with my husband for going on 15 years. He drinks every day and can be verbally abusive towards me sometimes towards my kids every other day he's denying them. He has been very physically abusive in the past (it's been a couple months) but hasn't lately. My kids love him despite how he talks about them. But I can't do this anymore, being called a whore, and him constantly bringing up my past, all this while he's drinking. I guess my question is how can I leave without missing him? He has a great job and goes to work every day, I just don't want him to do anything crazy to himself or me and my kids. I thought about going into a shelter and try to get help with a divorce.
