Baby sleep question!

My baby is almost 11 weeks, he sleeps in a bassinet beside our bed. He wakes up to eat and is easily put back down. He is swaddled. He was only waking 2-3 times at night but for the past few weeks it’s been constant. Now I’m questioning if he is even awake when i am picking him up - he never cries, just is making “chatting” sounds. I’m wondering if everyone picks up their baby when they are making sounds after being asleep for awhile or only when they are crying? I don’t think he’s always hungry, he’s almost doubled in weight since birth so that isn’t a problem. I would appreciate any help!!! Very tired mama.
