Former teachers?

Question

I've been teaching k-2 for 10 years. Currently pregnant with my 2nd and I'm seriously considering a career change. I'm so burnt out and tired. I have students with trauma and constantly feel like I'm not meeting their needs. Then I go home fried with no patience left for my own son. Has anyone left the classroom for another job? MLMs, nannying and staying home are not of interest to me.

I went from daycare to being a tutor at a center. My friend went from teaching to daycare to a butcher. If there is something that you have an interest in that gives you the hours and money needed to be with and care for your child go for it.

I don't have kids but I've been in education forever. I have also worked outside of education. There are definitely pros and cons to other careers. 
What's nice about teaching is getting off work when your kids are out of school. Also every year is a fresh start with new kids, sometimes new coworkers. There are opportunities to be creative in your work and still help children have a better future.
What's nice about other jobs is possibilities of higher pay, matching 401K's, less being treated with more respect. But you often do the same thing with the same people year after year with very little vacation or down time.  It may or may not be as stressful as teaching. The work may not seem as meaningful if you are sweating blood to make corpprate big wigs more money and not seeing a greater good to your work.
Just weigh the pros and cons. If you take a break from teaching, keep your license so you can return to it more easily if you decide it's a better fit for you.

I left a job in big pharma for teaching. I understand though. It is EXHAUSTING some days. I do love teaching but had to come up with a tap out system with so on rough days. I am a huge supporter of counseling and go regularly to just talk out all the sadness of teaching and how I make sure to leave their trauma out of my home (that sounds cruel but hopefully you inderstand). I have seen plenty of people burn out over the years and will say having a supportive admin team will make all the difference sometimes. Maybe try talking with your colleagues about the issues you are having. Sometimes a new approach is all you need.
