👋🏻Me again with more sleep questions.
How on earth do you get a baby to sleep without feeding them to sleep?
Since day 1 feeding to sleep has been our method. But recently we changed bottle teats, and night time feeds are bottles so we know exactly how much he’s getting (he’s predictable if we know how much he’s eating). But now this new teat flows quicker and he’s filling up faster (a bottle that would take an hour+ is now only taking 10-20minutes.) without getting tired. We thought of moving mealtime closer to when he normally falls asleep would do the trick, but it’s not. And he’s no longer interested in his pacifier/binky/dummy.
We changed teats for 2 reasons:
👉🏻my let down in naturally VERY fast, I’m a leaky faucet basically. When I pump I can get up to 150ml in a matter of minutes sometimes. And that’s when my pump setting is lower than the force I feel my baby suck with.
👉🏻he was falling asleep mid meal and waking up shortly after wanting more food. When he’s not tired he has not problem sip sipping, but when he’s tired he gets a workout from eating.
The nipple we changed to is only 1 step above the previous. The previous being 0+ months, this one is recommended for 1-3 months old. My boy is just a day shy of 11weeks, so he should fit this nipple just nice - especially given my letdown is so fast.
When he breastfeeds he has no issue falling asleep while eating, albeit he makes a mess cuz he gums around with the nip in his mouth.
Right now my husband is the pro at shushing him to sleep. But I think that’s a worse habit to break compared to falling asleep while drinking a bottle. But he needs to eat more, he sleeps soooooo well when he does. But right now he’s staying up later than normal and getting fussy. 😑
