When should we file for a passport?

I’ve never filed for a passport before so I have no idea how the process works. My boyfriend and I are going to Niagara Falls and will be going over to the Canadian side from the US side so we will need a passport card. We won’t be going until the middle of August so when should we file for a passport?￼

Now, sometimes it can take a few weeks but can take up to 9 months if it’s really busy.

yes you should, you never know unless you try. My passport was expired, so the process to get another took 2 weeks, depending the guy said. niagara falls is beautiful so id do it😅
