Could really use some advice

We have been dating for almost two years been engaged for 6 months. I know I don't want to marry him. I have 2 kids from previous relationship. This is his first. The problem is he is very controlling and wants everything to be his way. He moved in with me and he doesn't like my dogs especially on the bed. He wants to raise the kids like they are in the army. He has his own job but I always end up paying all the bills and food. And he always needs money for something he makes about the same I do. He has never bought anything for the kids he just expect me to do it all . I feel he is using me for money. He is horrible about trying to talk to him, when I try he just gets defense and says he's not in the mood to deal with it now. I feel like I can't really talk to him about of importance. All that being said he's not a bad guy just not working with my kids and me and I want to break up. We are both off tomorrow then I go back to work, while he is off for 2 days. When and how would you break up. I don't want to be mean I do care for him. Just need some advice. Thank you in advance
