Who pays for the baby shower?

Okay, so I need opinions. My MIL and SIL took it upon themselves to host my baby shower. I didn’t ask them, they just made themselves in charge. I didn’t have the heart to tell them no. But the last time my SIL was my maid of honor, she didn’t do ANYTHING. So the last thing I wanted was her help again. Well now it’s at the end of the month and they haven’t helped with anything. They then said “you can start buying decor, food, tables/chairs etc.” and we will put everything up the day of. So it went from them planning it, to me planning it AND paying for it. My question is: who is supposed to pay for the baby shower? I was always told the host. I’m so frustrated because I wouldn’t have had them in the first place, and now I’m stuck and have to pay $400 myself. Please help :(

I would just cancel it, honestly. They've basically turned it into you hosting your own shower-- since paying & planning are the main functions of a host-- & that seems like a lot of money/time/effort. 😕

Whoever is hosting should pay especially if they volunteered I'd just cancel it.

That 400$ could go to basically the Necessities the baby will need (car seat, stroller, crib) so id just cancel it also.

My friend who is also my baby's Godmother offered to throw my shower and she's paying for everything all I have to do is show, so I am guessing whoever offered to throw your baby shower should pay.

Traditionally female relatives pay for the baby shower. My mom and aunt payed for mine. I chipped in for my SIL’s. Don’t put down any money if you don’t want god. Just don’t give it to them. The shower is supposed to help you prepare for the baby, not leave you in the red

My mom and dad paid for most of it and I chipped in with some cheap decorations. If I had to pay $400 though, it would instantly be cancelled. That’s a crib, stroller, and maybe even car seat.

Traditionally, the host. But when my best friend planned mine, I gave her my credit card. 
Just let me know you don’t have money. Like “Thanks for hosting. It’s been a tough month so if we could stick to $200, that would be fantastic”.

My mother and I are throwing my sister a shower. She gave us the guest list and told us what weekends worked. Now she just has to show up to the venue.

I was always under the impression of the host. I was taught if you offer to host parties, go out to eat, ect... you payed, unless communicatated other wise. 
I would just cancel the shower and keep the money for baby essentials. You're going to need it.
