How do you discipline your children?

My mom had a Cain for when we were disobedient. And we never looked at it like child abuse but I fear to use the same method as it is seen as abuse these days and I don't want to hit the child when am angry at them because who knows when the line will be crossed.

Kneel down to their level and calmly talk to them about what they did was wrong.
If that doesn’t work, say it more sternly and slightly raise your voice (no yelling)
If that doesn’t work have them sit in a corner for a few minutes, no toys no tv.
If that doesn’t work take away something they enjoy (no hanging out with friends today, no favourite tv show after school, no video games, no favourite toy)
Never ever hit your child! Not with your hand and never with an object! You are only teaching them that it is okay to hit someone.

Talk to your kid, end the cycle of abuse and help your child problem solve and learn, don’t gain compliance through fear! Get it with respect and support.

Please don’t hit your children. Especially with an object. And even more so if there’s a potential you could “cross the line” if you can’t control your anger. Personally hitting a child is already crossing the line.

I think discipline depends on the age & the offense. But I’ll tell you that I don’t believe hitting (spanking, tapping, flicking, etc) is effective. The only think you’re teaching your child is that it’s okay to hit when someone behaves or does something in a way that you don’t like. 
Young children (baby, toddler) - distraction & redirection works best. Not a lot of “lessons” are going to me a thing to them, so best not to give the bad behavior attention & they will likely discontinue. 
Older Kids - Restrictions, loss of privileges, shoot even timeout.

Jesus don’t use a cane on your children. It’s not looked upon as abuse- it is abuse. Physical punishment only shows kids that it’s ok to hurt other people. There are a million different strategies that are better. Look into gentle parenting. It’s hard to break out of that pattern but you need to do it. My issue is yelling and I’m trying to get better at it but it’s hard when it’s all I’ve ever known as a child. But it’s up to us to raise our children better.

I don’t discipline my child yet as she is only 1.5 years and has no ability to understand that. She does have boundaries and limitations that she understands. We will never hit her. I suggest looking into Love and Logic.

A cane is abusive. What I do is explain verbally first (on their eye level). Then loss of privileges. Also maybe a time out depending on what’s working best at the time. 
Also, they say ignoring the “bad” behavior and praising the heck out of the good (it’s called positive reinforcement) is supposed to be very effective.

I use my disappointed mum voice when explaining how disappointed I am with whatever they did. And in public I just have to make eye contact with them and raise a finger in the #1 sign and they settle down.
