Do y’all feel like there’s a safe way to bbq & hold a 4 month old?

My sons dad told me he was barbecuing “safely” while holding our 4 month old during his visit, it doesn’t seem safe to me  to have a hand busy with barbecuing and an infant in the other. Am I wrong? He’s also a high functioning alcoholic and drinks and drives and crap. Idk if I’m being over protective or what

I hold my child while cooking on a gas stove everyday. You stand sideways with the baby away from it🤷‍♀️ super easy.

I think there is a safe way but only if you’re careful. 
My friend was cleaning the bbq after lunch one day and had her 4 month old in a carrier. The baby got its feet burned when she accidentally stood too close and the baby’s feet landed on the hot plate. 
Accidents happen.

I suppose yes you can be safe, but why risk it. It only takes a spilt second of inattention for potential serious harm to baby. But to be honest I’d be more worried about the highly functioning alcoholic and drink driving. That is very risky behaviour and I personally wouldn’t let my child be in a car with that person. I would struggle to let the baby be with the dad without my supervision. Someone who drink drives is likely to par take in other behaviour that could be risky.

I cooked with baby all the time, or we would never have eatten. 🤷🏻‍♀️ that said, I would not be thrilled with someone drinking grilling and holding my baby at the same time.

I think there is definitely a way to be safe and cook at the same time. But with his history of drinking I wouldn't trust him with the baby while cooking.

I cook while holding my daughter most nights. There is definitely a safe way to do it. When you BBQ it’s not like there’s popping oil or anything. As long as the flames are well controlled there’s minimal risk. I would be more concerned with the baby breathing in smoke from the fire than anything.

I don’t blame you. I would be iffy about It too. It’s scary because what if the flames went up high? It would definitely be near him & the baby. Also the heat? Like thats gotta be hot hot to the baby...all that heat going up towards the baby. I wouldn’t trust It.

grill not stove yes ONLY if what you’re cooking isn’t something that will pop or splash something hot
