Advice Needed: Jaundice Baby
Hi everyone, so feeling a little lost and would appreciate some fellow mama advice! My little lady was born last Thursday via C section and on Saturday they informed us that her bilirubin levels were high so she would need phototherapy. They had her under the lights all day Saturday and all night. Sunday morning at 5 they took her levels again and they had dropped! Yay. They took her off the lights and we had to retest her blood at 1. At this point her levels remained steady so they discharged us with instructions that she was to see the pediatrician on Monday for a follow up. After the visit the pediatrician called us with the results to let us know her levels were rising again but weren’t over the threshold for her age to need more phototherapy. Went back today and her levels had risen again. Still not over the threshold to need more light therapy. But they do want us to supplement an ounce of formula with each feed and to go back on Friday to check her levels again. I am concerned for her health if i continue to breastfeed. It had been going really well and she has been gaining weight really well since her initial drop in the hospital. Should i just wean her off the breast and go to formula fed only? I love breastfeeding and was able to breastfeed my son for 8 months. But i want to do what is best for the baby. Anyone go through anything similar or have any advice? Much appreciated!
