Boyfriend most likely has ADHD
Hi everyone,
It’s been a long time since I’ve posted anything.
One of the lasts posts I made, was about how I was tired of my boyfriend gaming so much. Some people who commented were supportive, while some were downright invalidating.
Anyway, I work in the mental health field, and last week I saw one of those sponsored ads on Facebook. It was a medication for ADHD in adults. I was bored, so I clicked on it.
It was a really good article, talking about symptoms and it discussed how ADHD can affect relationships. Basically, everything started making sense. I’m 99.9% sure my boyfriend has ADHD...it explains his bad budgeting skills, his tendency to get easily distracted, and his hyper focusing (excessive gaming), which includes not paying any attention to me.
I’m posting this for a few reasons. Primarily, I just wanted to say how validated I feel, that I’m not “crazy” and what I’ve been feeling in this relationship is real, all of the loneliness and sadness and anger. (If it ends up being the case that my bf does have ADHD) it doesn’t mean that he gets a free pass, it doesn’t mean that his behavior is justified, it just means that we both have some work to do.
I also want to bring awareness-I read that around 80% off adults with ADHD are undiagnosed! So if your situation sounds anything like mine-maybe talk to your partner, and do some research. (Please don’t diagnose your partner! 😉) I have already encouraged my bf to see a psychiatrist to get assessed.
Thank you for reading this far! Lastly, if anyone already has a partner who has been diagnosed, I’d love to see a comment from you. Or, if anyone just has a similar story, and you think your partner is showing some symptoms, I’d also like to hear from you.
I’ve just started on this journey, and right now I’m feeling torn about staying in the relationship. Because there is also a genetic factor, odds are if we have kids-they will also have ADHD. I don’t feel the mental health stigma, just sharing how difficult it’s been, and how difficult it might be in the future.
❤️

Just wanted to update everyone that my BF had his assessment last week and within 35 minutes was prescribed a medication for ADHD. Excited to see if it helps him
