Sticking my nose where it dont belong??

Okay ladies my bf of 6 months owns a home with his ex gf, they have been trying to sell for about 8 months now but not having any luck. It's a huge house with a hefty monthly payment so neither can afford to keep it on their own. Due to the cost of the house and many showings with no potential buyers I started making suggestions on what could help. I gave him several things from my place to stage the house, I stay with him most of the time so i dont miss it, and I have suggested finishing the painting that the prior owners started and quit half way through in multiple rooms. Bf screams and hollers that he doesnt want to invest money into the house and if no one wants it the way it is it's not his problem. Well today he got an update from the last 2 showings with feedback as to why they were not interested, all reasoning due to updates needed, one being the old carpet. I told him my thoughts from a 3rd party looking in and asked him if they had thought about changing out the carpet. His response to this question was, "do you have X amount of money to do it? No? Didnt think so, so F off!". Well this hit deep, okay fine you dont want my opinion. So I told him obviously I over stepped and gave an opinion where is wasnt wanted so I will stay out of it. This pissed him off and now he says I over reacted, I'm too sensitive and he didnt mean it the way I took it. So my question to you is....did I over step and provide opinion where I shouldn't have? Should I just stay out of it? Did I get too "emotional" in regards to his response?
