Is it possible to repair a parent/child relationship?
My dad and I have had a very distant relationship. We live in the same home, but we never speak and never really have. The few conversations we have are always tense and just unnecessary. I have two brothers and he just prefers them. He wanted boys because he’s into sports and wanted boys to watch and play sports with. He has never taken an interest in my hobbies or getting to know me. When I played a sport, he laughed at it and said it was a lame and weird sport. It was soccer. Don’t know how that’s weird, but okay. Never came to any games or practices or asked how it was going. Never asked about school or friends or anything.
Randomly tonight he came to my room and was trying to talk to me. He was asking about an art project I’ve been working on. I just gave one word responses because I am just not used to it and honestly I don’t really want to talk to him. He left and later my mom told me I was rude and I should make the effort if he is trying to. I think she is right and now I feel guilty but I just honestly don’t want to. I feel like it’s just too late and the damage has been done. So I guess I’m wondering if I can ever get to the point of wanting to talk to him.
