Is Egypt a safe country to travel to as a westerner?

So we were thinking of honeymoon destinations and I’ve always dreamed of going to Egypt.
However I was reading government advice and it scared me off.  There was a lot of mention of terrorism, kidnapping, sexual assault etc.
Is it really that bad??

My husband is Egyptian , we are Coptic Christians , and no we are not even going to Egypt to visit family . Do you speak Arabic ? I really don’t think it’s a place for a honeymoon , it is not safe for that. Like another poster said, Greece is awesome

Best advice anybody can give you right now is to stay the hell home.it could be up to 2 years before it's a good idea to go traveling to any other country. Few places you have to self quarantine for 1 weeks before you can do anything and when you come home you have to self quarantine again for 2 week.  you be wasting you trip. instead of going to this expensive place you could always go camping. A week of camping does your body some good.

So Egypt is a great country as far as sight seeing. But for a honeymoon I’m not sure I would recommend it honestly. I am in the military, have traveled all over, have seen really awful things, and I saw a lot of things there that really twisted my stomach and have stuck with me. I would totally recommend a place like Greece though. Beautiful, tranquil and romantic, plenty of history and sites to see. Egypt is great if you spend a day in Cairo and a day or two in Alexandria. But it is a bit dangerous so always take the tours it’s the safest way around foreign countries.

I live in eastern europe. My coworker went just before the covid crisis. They had to be escorted everywhere by police because men kept trying to buy her daughter from (not even for money, they offered camels and goats) her rather agressively. I wouldn't go.

I went in 2009 as a study abroad program for two weeks in college. We had an armed escort with us the entire time and that was before the recent issues with the government. There were times the group split up and I still felt safe, but I don’t know that I’d go without being on a group tour of some sort. I absolutely loved it though. By far one of my favorite travel experiences and we were all over the country in not only the large tourist areas but small villages and a friend of our professor’s opened his home to us for tea one afternoon. An amazing nation for sure but consider going through a program.
