Are material things more important?

My bf constantly talks about material things and wanting all the luxuries and sports cars. He is ambitious, which is a good thing, but I feel like there are more important things in life. Sure we need money for everything and nobody really wants to date someone broke without financial goals, but what about life goals? 
Anyway we clash heads when I try to explain to him that ambition is great, but that life goals are also important. 
Our "deep conversations" are often more about material things than the uncovered meaning of life. To me it's the little details that make up the big picture but he thinks the big picture is just all $$$ signs. 
He even told me that my car is a low end of its model and that why buy it if it's not higher end. My response was that I never bite more than I can chew and prefer to buy things I can afford rather than drown myself in debt. 
I mean who wouldn't want to live luxurious? But does he care about material things more than anything else?

Honestly it sounds like you're trying to put down his views and mindset rather than just admitting you're not compatible 
He wants luxuries and is money motivated it sounds, and that's fine. You are not that way, and that's fine. Your views and mindset are not better or more important than his. Y'all are just different.

Just sounds like you're not compatible just because you don't agree with him doesn't mean he's a shit person. People have different views and goals in life his happens to be money and luxury.

U are way more mature and put things with a much higher priority infront. Seems like he still like the glam life which nothing is wrong but at some point materialistic things will fade as u get older. I prefer to see 20k in my bank account than a red bottom In my closet so I see where u coming from

He seems a little money hungry. That’s a big red flag. It’s good to have ambitions about life but not so materialistic. He seems like the kinda guy to put himself in debt because he always wants to have the latest stuff 
I tell my boyfriend what kinda house I want and the car I hope to have but it’s always about our future and whether our kids would be happy in that home as well.

Sounds like you guys aren’t very compatible. Trust me, if you’re clashing over money now, it will not work out and only become more of an issue down the line. I would consider trying to have one more conversation to see if you’ll be able to compromise together or consider breaking up.

Sounds like me and my SO, he likes to buy the frills while I would rather save the extra money. He also has so many expensive hobbies, while I like to buy a good book every once in a while or stick to necessities if a large purchase is happening (computer, tv, etc).
We were just talking about moving to a new city for better job options for me and buying a house. I was looking at some in the $350k range to keep payments low, but he wants someone in the $650-720k range and thinks everyone has a lot debt to live somewhere nice. We’re getting a bigger car this year, and I wanted a mid/low trim car vs he wanted the higher end with features I would never use, about a $15-20k difference in price. It’s always a long conversation and yes I make spreadsheets to prove my point, but we always work through it.
