Newborn won’t sleep in bassinet

Just had my baby 4 days ago and the last few nights have been tough trying to get him to sleep in his bassinet throughout the night. He refuses to sleep in there for long and just wants to be held to sleep. If he’s in there he wakes up every half hour and very fussy. He wants to eat . Then after he eats he poops so the cycle just never ends and we don’t get any sleep. Anyone have Or had similar experience with their newborn? When does it get better ?
