Is asking for $8/h really too much? Who's wrong?

I'm starting a babysitting job soon and both my mom and sister think I'm requesting too much and I should settle for whatever she gives me, which i will because it's money either which way, but I don't see an issue with asking $8/h when most people around here charge $10-$15/h. My last babysitting job I did for two or so years watching a brother and sister and got $4-5/h and that was only because they were close friends.

This new job hours will vary and so will the days. I will be cooking and entertaining for two boys, one is 8 and the other is 9. I think I'm being very fair only asking $8 but some seem to think that's asking for too much because apparently I won't be doing a lot. Like what? Kids are hard work. I was told they are well behaved and independent, but still.
