I’m really sick of blatant sexism

The other day, I told my boyfriend that it’s annoying going to the gym alone sometimes because men don’t always know how to leave you alone. They will come up and try to “show you” the right way to do things. Or want to help you/spot you. Etc. I have NEVER seen a fit woman go up to another woman and tell them how to do something without asking first. I’ve never seen a fit woman tell an obviously overweight inexperienced guy how to lift. This is purely a male thing. It doesn’t always happen but it does enough to make me feel uncomfortable wearing tight fitting leggings or shirts at the gym. As I was saying, I told my boyfriend this but decided to go anyways today while he was at work. And he says “I thought you said it annoys you when guys approach you at the gym. Now you’re just asking for it.” Excuse me? I almost lost my shit because he said that. I explained to him how even when women want to go out for a drink with friends, men will approach us unnecessarily even when we make it obvious we don’t want any attention or socialization. I don’t mind a guy coming up just to be friendly and chat but it’s annoying when they’re being flirty or the opposite, trying to mansplain you, etc. I am just so sick of this narrative that women are “asking for it” by simply wanting to work out, or go to a bar for drinks; or dance, do something fun all because men can’t mind their own business and leave us alone. I didn’t realize how bad it was until I was old enough to drink and started working out regularly. I know this happens often at women’s jobs as well or even on social media when expressing their opinions, etc. It’s just so blatant and obvious that I wonder how someone goes their whole life without experiencing sexism. Anyways I just wanted to rant about this because sometimes I wonder if I just need to date different men.
