Why do you stare at others?

What are the main reasons you might stare at someone in public? As a black woman, i used to feel extremely uncomfortable when walking into a store or cafe that was predominantly white and have most people stare at me. I’d get angry but I noticed kids do it as well. It dawned on me that the kids must be curious if they come from neighborhoods that don’t see women that look like me other than on television often. So I realized that could also be the reason for the adults. Now I just smile and keep it pushing.
