My Sister is Irresponsible with my Car! (Long Read)
Less than a year ago, my husband and I were going to sell my car because at the time I quit work and was focusing on my pregnancy. We had no need for a 2nd car and especially when my husband got a new position where he was given a work vehicle. My sister caught wind of me selling my car and asked if she could buy it. At the time, she didn’t have the money to give me not even for a downpayment. But being a good sister, I asked my husband to just let her take over the monthly loan payment and she can pay us during tax season. Well, tax season rolled around and she did not pay us. She claimed she used it all to catch up on her bills because her SO who is living with her wasn’t helping her and her kids. In July she sent me this picture of my car saying it “got hit in the parking lot at the store.” This is merely cosmetic, but it pissed me and my husband off as this never happened to our vehicles. But it happens to some nonetheless, so we let it go. Today, she text me saying someone broke into her storage unit last night and also my car and stole some things out of it. I asked her why wasn’t the car locked? She said her and her SO must have forgotten to lock it. I am waiting for my husband to get off work to talk to him about it as the loan is still in our name. She has horrible credit and cannot refinance in her name without a huge loan payment, but I don’t want to be dealing with this anymore as it can break down and she can always give it back to us at anytime and then we are stuck with this vehicle and the loan. I need advise, should I tell her she needs to refinance in her name, take it back and sell it or let her keep making monthly payments?
