When will toddler calm down?

Hi everyone,
My toddler is 2.65 years old and he seems to be getting more wild. Some things he does:
- pulls brothers hair
- hit family when upset
- tantrums when he doesn’t get what he wants (like if we are out when he doesn’t want to leave somewhere)
- generally defiant - says no to everything we ask him to do 
- ignores us when we ask him to do things
- won’t sit still when I try to teach him preschool concepts
- climbs everything 
My first son is more calm. I’m sure he did a few of these things when younger and it passed without much notice since it wasn’t as frequent. 
Did anyone have a toddler like this and how long did it take for them to grow out of it? (Or did they stay like this?)
Any info is greatly appreciated!

My toddler turned 3 two months ago and he's still wild. He's usually really good out in public it's just mostly at home. He is really loud and energetic. Climbing and jumping off of things and yelling. Hitting the dog and pouring everyone's drinks in the floor. Throwing toys. Saying No or I don't care when we get onto him. 
When he's doing something that I don't like or He's not listening to me I'll tell him "Ok I'm going to count and when I say 3 I want you to _______." Then I'll start counting and if he doesn't do it then he sits in timeout for 3 minutes because he's 3 years old. No toys or movie or anything during timeout. When it's over I get down to his level and tell him what he did and he says sorry and we hug. 
For preschool skills it's hard to get him to sit still for long because of his attention span and I work most of the day while he stays with grandma. He got a tablet for Christmas and I put a bunch of preschool and educational games on it, ABC Mouse, PBS kids, Khan academy, etc. and I don't have to ask him to work on anything. Now he asks to play it. When we sit down to work on the little workbooks and things he says it's boring and we do it on the tablet together.

My toddler just turned 4 and like the month before I noticed he calmed down. It was a definite difference, like now he’s done with the moody toddler years and is a somewhat reasonable preschooler. Like this morning I asked him to get dressed and a year ago (or even 6 months ago) he would’ve lost his f’n mind screaming through the whole house and trying to throw things but now he walked himself to a separate room and was quietly upset for a couple minutes then came back and got dressed like I asked. I can tell he’s getting so much better at working with his emotions.

My hyper go go go toddler turned into an active go go go child. He did eventually learn to sit down and pay attention in school as it was needed but he did need more redirection and more outlets than my more passive children. That’s just his personality. He’s very smart, social, friendly, driven, active, and self confident. He was always outside riding bikes or skateboarding, and even now as a teen is active in highschool sports. I always joke and say when he was a baby “he skipped learning how to walk and just went right to running”.. 😂🤪

Do you yell when you scold/reprehend? I ask because it is more counterproductive than it is helpful.
When teaching your baby preschool concepts, do you do so in a non-distracting environment?
No tv around, other toys that can distract, etc.
My baby is pretty wild also, but i find drawing (shapes with different colors, for example) is more to her liking than actually sitting down and looking at a page or something. Getting her some wooden puzzles was also very helpful because she was doing an activity and taking in what i was saying at the same time. We only do like 15 mins a day.
