What does this mean?

I’ve been talking/seeing but not dating or anything official for a guy for a couple months now and he’s expressed that he really likes me and cares about me, he’s told me that he will always be there if I need him and if needed he will fight for me? Not sure what he means but he’s offered his place as a safe place for me if I ever need to get away and has said I can have his spare key if I want to.

So we’ve been friends for a while but last month or so we’ve gotten closer nothing to serious we’ve had as cuddle,kiss not sex so what? Are we just close,friends with Benefits or is this heading to something more? He’s not said he wants a relationship but nether have I we’ve always said we’re just good friends but we’ve both said we have feelings for each other.
