Would you attend an ‘unplugged’ wedding?
An unplugged wedding is also known as a phone/camera/tech free wedding.
Some hosts make you check your phones in on arrival and collect them on exit, some just have polite notices or announcements to turn off your phones and take no photos. Some go all the way telling you to leave it at home and won’t let you in if you have any of the ‘banned’ items on your person.
The main reason I have seen for unplugged weddings is to allow the professional photographer/videographer to do their job without distractions, but other reasons include:
- not wanting personal photos all over social media
- not wanting other peoples arms or phones in the background of professional photos
- not wanting to have to stop and pose for every ‘aunt, uncle and grandparent’ during the reception
- simply to avoid having unflattering photos in circulation
I personally wouldn’t mind attending one where they ask for no pictures and to turn off your phone.
If the wedding was kid-free, I would have to keep my phone on my person but will be happy to silence it and step outside if I needed to check it. I wouldn’t take photos if I was asked not to.
