IUD and yeast infections
Has anyone out there noticed an increase in yeast infections since getting their IUD? I’m currently 21yro and got the Mirena in March 2018. I had never had a yeast infection in my life until one year after I had my Mirena inserted (April 2019).
April 2019 was also the first time I had sex with my new partner, who I am still with currently. Before my current partner, I had only had sex with one other partner, and I had the Mirena during the entire time we were together.
I had 2 yeast infections in 2019: one in April and one in September. This year I had 3 so far: one in May, one in September, and one in November. I used to think it was my partner’s and my bodily chemistry/bacteria, but now I’m not sure, because we hadn’t had sex for a whole week before I got the yeast infection in November.
Anyone else had similar experiences? I do everything right: pee after sex, never stay in wet or sweaty clothes, sleep without underwear on, avoid using any soaps around my vagina, dry off immediately after showering, etc. I eat a yogurt every morning and take a probiotic every night, as recommended by my gynecologist.
Before I started having yeast infections, I never had a problem with staying in wet swimsuits or sweaty clothes, but now I feel like I’m always on edge, worrying that any little thing could cause another yeast infection.
I’m at the point where if my IUD is the culprit, I may switch to another form of birth control. Just wanted to get other IUD users’ opinions before I go see my gynecologist again.
