Should all degrees be the same price?
For as long as I can remember, people have been calling for degrees deemed 'essential' to be cheaper (or even free*) and "unnecessary degrees" to remain the same price.
For reference: (as quoted by those in the debate)
Essential degrees; medical, science, some engineering, law, etc
"Unnecessary" degrees; Dance, degrees studying a single language (exc. English Literature), art, fashion, etc..
Some students have no choice but to go to university for the career they wish to join, with some of those careers being in high demand (e.g. Nurses) but the worry of debt has deterred them from pursuing. On the other hand, some jobs prefer a degree, but it isn't completely necessary to advance. This leaves university purely down to choice, and not an obligation.
I wanted to bring this discussion to CC, especially as a lot of people are from places where tuition fees are extremely high, in contrast where higher education is 100% free*.
Poll question: Title.
Bonus:
If you haven't been to university because of the cost, would lowering the prices convince you to go?
If applicable, what sort of degree(s) do you feel should be free*/more affordable?
*I know this means tax funded.
