Baby Nurses Excessively - Inefficient Nursing?
My six week old son seems to nurse constantly. I tracked his feedings this past day and he nursed 17 times, for a total of almost 9 hours of nursing. Is this normal? I’m starting to worry that if this doesn’t change we are going to have to go to formula. I seem to be producing enough and he’s very chunky, but I’m wondering if maybe he’s just an inefficient nurser. Should I try switching to pumping exclusively and feeding him what I pump? I can’t even get ahead on pumping right now because there is so little time between his nursing marathons that what little time I have I’m scrambling to do basic life necessities (eating, peeing, dishes, laundry, cooking, etc.) He also has at least 2-3 bottles of expressed breast milk during the day on top of all the nursing, milk collected from my haakaa pump or from freezer bags from when I had time to get ahead on milk. I’m so frustrated and don’t know what to do.
