17mo and screaming

What can I do to help him stop? He literally screams at the top of his lungs for no reason or when he wants something. It’s absolutely frustrating and I don’t even know how to address it. I say no thank you and offer words for whatever he’s wanting/needing but not seeming to help and it drives me up the wall especially while I’m driving and can’t do anything and it’s literally just to scream. Some have recommended a squirt bottle, which I felt was harsh, but now I’m considering it lol. Any tips? TIA!
