Language and religious symbol laws

C

My daughter starts school in September. I can send her to the French school or the English one. The Provincial government has implement a messed up new law that dictates that no religious symbols can be worn by public servants- meaning teachers cannot wear hijab or turban for example. It disproportionately targets minorities as it does allow for a cross to be worn. For example, the French school she would attend has a giant cross right on the front of it. It’s being contested in court and the English system is fighting it and might be getting an exemption. This has me leaning toward the English system (and choosing a bilingual program).

However, the English system is mostly made up of white students. Because of language laws, immigrants or anyone who doesn’t have eligibility is forced to attend French schools, making the French system a lot more multicultural.

So I’m torn. The English system stands against the racist laws being implemented, but the French system will ensure my

Daughter is not the only BIPOC student in her class/school.

What would you choose? I am struggling with this decision.
