Scratch and dent

Ok so. I kind of scraped a mailbox. I have a long scratch and a dent. I know that dents can be taken out by a plunger and hot water, but what can I do about the scratch?

To the people telling me to take it to the shop, I sent a request for an estimate and they want over $1600. I don’t have that kind of money which is why I want to fix it myself

My ex is a mechanic and he said most body dents can be popped or pushed back into place pretty easily. If I can pop out the dent, and then buff out the scratch as much as I can (my ex brought up clay stuff to get it out but I can’t remember what it’s called lol) and if it needs repainted then I will take it in. But the shop wanted almost 1,000 for just labor. And I really cannot afford that. You guys act like it’s so hard and it’s really funny because an actual mechanic told me it’s not. I came on here to ask about the scratch and what I can use on it and you’re all like “oh it’s not possible” but it is.
