Being married and having super religious in laws

My in laws are JW, my husband seems to identify with the practices but he's not baptized so he's not really a JW. I'm spiritual practicing african spirituality. His parents and siblings respect that they've described me as vibrant and colorful also says the family could use that.

I was invited to a family event to which included extended members of his family I declined,apparently I do too much this is from my own family, Christians, but I do too much with the way I dress.

I wear lots jewelry on my face, hair and body. I wear the evil eye, ankh, eye of ra, etc.

They insisted I was welcomed at this event now I felt uncomfortable as I always do in unfamiliar spaces but when I didn't participate in prayer or eat certain foods, never mind being pre diabetic; carbs, refined sugar etc big no no, they got pissed at me.

They shamed the hell outta my husband now he will be shunned by his family. He never cared but why tf do I care? I'm not changing who I am but I kinda feel bad for him being shamed
