Dating With Autism?

Question

Has anyone ever been with or dated a person with autism? I’m speaking to a guy has autism and I just want some tips please as I have never been in this situation before.

I’ve never dated anyone with autism, but my nephew is blind and autistic with mild seizures randomly, medication and injections.  it all depends on the level of the spectrum that he is in, my nephew is 18 years old, but he’s still like a two-year-old in essence he is closer to the nonverbal side aside from repeating random things if you ask him to, you can’t have a conversation with him, it’s completely different levels of the spectrum, some people are able to function and work and just have scattered thinking, or are emotionally I guess emotional EQ, isn’t there and they can’t relate to people and lack emotional connection, they lack empathy, I guess you’d say. There are so many different levels of autism, some are completely nonverbal, some are able to function, some it’s hardly noticeable, it all depends on him, he needs to explain to you and his family, also their experience with him, some have violent outbursts, there’s a lot of levels to it, you basically need a lot of patience. It all depends where he is on the spectrum, I would have a talk with him, ask him what his negative traits or negative side effects or what makes it difficult for him, what does his family experience and his friends, what is it like at his job, what does he do when he gets overwhelmed.  his family would probably be best to explain to you the difficulties that he experiences because they’ve had to be there through all of it, it’s not easy to be with someone with autism, especially when it’s your choice to be with them or not be with them. there’s a TV show called a good doctor, and he is a Doctor Who has autism, and it shows the different times that he gets overwhelmed, has difficulties with relationships, how he can be disconnected from people, emotionally, how so many different things that he experiences, but he’s more high functioning autism. there are kids who when they are younger they just bang her head on the wall because they can’t function, and their brain is shooting off different chemicals and synapsis and they can’t cope with it, there are so many different levels of autism like I said, you just have to figure out where he is, if it’s a thing that you can deal with, or if it’s a thing that you can’t deal with or you’ll become tiresome of or you want out because you can’t handle it, like I said you need to figure out what you can or can’t deal with and I think him and his family would be able to shed light on that better than I could. ￼￼￼ ￼

Don’t do it unless he’s spectacular at communication from therapy and had a good childhood and whatnot. I’ve dated several guys with autism, all extremely dumb, selfish (in large part from ignorance - being unable to comprehend), and unable to communicate their feelings - which is generally a problem in men, but was so much worse with them because they could just not understand their feelings ON TOP of not being able to understand their feelings. Will never do it again, personally.

So maybe make sure you discuss everythjng with him
Meet in a place familiar to him
Try and let him plan it or make sure he knows the plan in advance so can prepare for it
