Why did you decide to become a parent?

TRIGGER WARNING: If you didn’t plan your pregnancy what made you decide to keep the baby. (Aka become a parent) 
I know this may sound like a silly question but I’ve seen some absolutely foolish reasons for becoming a parent. And I know some of you will think “there’s no bad reason” but there absolutely are bad reasons for becoming a parent. Just wanted to know what everyone’s reason was because while there are bad reasons there are also very very wholesome ones ❤️

I never ever wanted a baby. Then I met my fiancé. He was so wonderful with his sister’s kids and I could tell how awesome he’d be as a dad. He made me want a baby and now we have a wonderful baby girl.

I swore up and down that I was going to end up giving full custody to my kid's dad, all the way up to about 2 weeks before I gave birth and still spotty with it until we came home from the hospital. It was a late night feed with her just staring at me with such wonder and peace that made me decide to give this parenthood a try.

I grew up in a large family, with a large extended family. I had a very wonderful, loving experience growing up. Family get-togethers and holidays were just so much fun. Family vacations, birthdays, the changing of the seasons... I just knew that if I got married I wanted to have that. Maybe not as large of a family as my parents chose to have (i was the oldest of seven), but I definitely wanted kids and that sort of family life. What's funny is I never was what type of girl, and later young woman, to dream about having babies of my own. I never felt that baby hunger that some women talk about. But I knew myself, and knew I would be far happier as the years went by if it was more than just me and my husband. And I was right! With my first pregnancy I started to question myself and wonder why I was doing this since I never felt a strong draw towards babies and little kids. But as soon as I held my first born I was blown away with how in love with him I was. And I felt the same with his three brothers that followed in the next few years. Holidays and life in general is just so much more enjoyable sharing it with these little humans and watching them experience it for the first time.

I got pregnant at 19. It was unexpected. I considered abortion but I realized I would’ve only done it because I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to provide financially for the baby because from the moment I got that positive test I wanted and loved my child. My family didn’t support me and my boyfriend and I had just gotten back together after taking a break and we were still on shaky ground. I didn’t have much faith we’d stay together and I knew it’d be all on me in the event we broke up again. I kept my son and things were really hard for the first few years but I overcame the obstacles and my boyfriend and I eventually got married. We are now 30 weeks with our daughter.

My husband and I waited until we both had stable jobs, we bought the home we wanted to raise children in and we were financially ready (as ready as we could be). And emotionally ready to give up our independence and "freedom" of going out and doing whatever we wanted.

Something just told me things would work out. And I kept having signs from relatives who passed away, one of which being super recent. It especially confirmed it when I found out it was a boy, which is what the family member who passed recently kept wishing we had ❤️

I wanted to be a parent at 14 years old. I don't know if it was hormones but I would dream about a lady dropping a baby off at my window. It was a recurrent dream for a few years.
Dated my husband for 10 years before getting married & planned our pregnancy. He was so far from ready. He went thru serious depression and stages of mourning. He barely got over the shock of my pregnancy when my son turned 6 months old! We now have a happy 2nd accident and my husband is crazy excited.

I wanted kids when I was a kid and always thought I would want them. I was raised in an extremely abusive household and was taught to make terrible decisions. Any time I made a good decision, my mom would sabotage it and make me feel like I was doing the wrong thing. I therefore just always felt that I could not trust my judgement and that my opinions and thoughts were wrong. I really felt like there was something wrong with me. So I was dating awful guys that I didn't even like because if I didn't, my mom would tear me up saying I was too rigid and too perfectionistic and all that. 
So, I was dating an absolute loser (and I do mean ABSOLUTE loser) and ended up pregnant. I knew it wasn't a good idea to go through with it, but they all told me I was thinking too much and it would all be okay. Plus, I wanted to do the right thing. I also didn't know how to separate different parts of me. Emotionally, yes, I wanted the baby and that's the only part my family wanted me to pay attention to. Logically, though, I did not want to do this with my life. I did not want the hassle. I did not want the slow down. I did not want the neediness and the control of another person. So it's complicated for me, but it was mostly due to pressure. If the pressure hadn't been there, I think I would have opted for adoption. I don't think I could have stomached an abortion.

I didn’t want kids but we ended up pregnant and I didn’t want to kill it or give it up. So I owned up to the consequences. She’s now 2.5 and we just found out about number 2. Planned. I wanted her to have a sibling.

I’ve always wanted to have a baby someday, to bring a life into the world. I wanted to share the bond I have with my mother with my own child someday. Though I knew I would wait until a child could be my first priority. I have a very high stress, physically demanding, rewarding and wonderful career. I knew I wanted to establish that. It took until I was 29 to meet my forever man. I could see our future together forever and I could see having kids with him. We wanted to wait to have kids til a year into marriage at least. I accidentally took a week of placebo pills backwards and told him we could be pregnant. When we found out we were not we were both deeply disappointed. That little mistake made us both know we wanted to have a baby together. Took us a year of trying and medication to get pregnant with our little sweetheart. Now we are ready for number 2 and final.
