Fiancé got mad about me contacting rental apartments

We’re moving for his job. I told him I’d contact a some rentals to see availability and he was fine with it. I basically asked them what currently was available or would be by our projected move in date.

Today he asked if I contacted any and which ones I contacted. I couldn’t really remember because it was a few days ago, but I knew I contacted like 3-4. Two were out of budget.

I explained all that and he got mad basically saying “I don’t like to contact them beforehand, I like to just show up and surprise them” Basically like showing up unannounced to tour and seeing what’s available “I’m guessing you told them a whole story correct?” Ie. Why were moving which I didn’t. I just filled out their form with a projected move in date. Then tells me I must have contacted ones off his list because they were way over budget. His list has ones from like Zillow/apartments.com these were ones I found on Google that had no prices or availability on their website.

I feel extremely upset by all this. Like he knew I was going to contact some, he should have said something earlier.

I know it bothered him that I didn’t log them in a spreadsheet.
