Post-IUD symptoms

I got my IUD in about 2 weeks ago, and I was just looking to see if anyone experienced similar symptoms after (and if so, how long did it take for them to go away? lol).

First off, I didn’t think getting the IUD inserted was that bad. Yes, it hurt quite a bit, but it was something I could muscle through. They had to dilate my cervix quite a bit because I have never had children and they said it was pretty tight. All in all, it took them about 15 minutes of dilating—> trying to insert —> dilating again, and so on, before they got it in. Afterwards, I had pretty robust period-like cramps for about 24 hours. They tapered off and by the week mark I was only cramping maybe once a day for an hour or so, and I’ve been in a sort of up and down cycle ever since. Last night I suddenly got some extremely painful cramps that lasted a while (I finally took advil and went to bed to avoid them), but then today I haven’t had any cramps. My abdomen does seem a bit swollen after last night, and my abs are sore, but no new cramping.

Is this a cycle that I should expect to continue for a while? I don’t love the unexpected bouts of extreme cramps (and I’m really not a fan of the slight swelling and sore abs the next day), so I’d love to know if others have experienced anything similar and how long it took to go away?

Also, if this info helps, pre-IUD I had pretty regular periods (28 day cycle or so) that lasted for 7 days with moderate-to-heavy cramping and flow.
