Hematoma on the Placenta

Emily

This is my third pregnancy. My first was perfectly healthy and resulted in a healthy baby boy, my second was an early missed miscarriage (6 weeks, discovered at 9 weeks), and I am currently almost 10 weeks with my 3rd. At my first ultrasound I found out that I was measuring 7 weeks instead of 8 weeks and they found a hematoma on the placenta. The ultrasound tech told me that this was rare, but they often resolve like regular sub chorionic hematomas, but they may refer me to maternal fetal medicine as a precaution. Several days after that ultrasound I experienced VERY LIGHT spotting (if I wasn’t so on edge about this pregnancy I probably wouldn’t have even called, but I wanted them to see me again and check on the baby). I had a second ultrasound a week after my first to check for fetal heart activity. It was there. Fast forward almost 2 weeks and I received the call that I am getting referred to maternal fetal medicine “based on my last ultrasound and bleeding.” I’m freaking out all over again. I have never been to maternal fetal medicine before and I don’t know what to expect. I know it’s rare, but wondering if anyone has had a similar condition with their pregnancy? Or can anyone tell me what to expect with MFM?
