Am I right to be upset?
My family and I moved to my husband’s home country a few months ago. Our firstborn, who is 6, has had to leave his school and friends and to say he is finding the adjustment challenging would be a huge understatement.
He had just started to learn how to read in English and is now having to play catch up with learning how to read in another language with different characters. My mother in law has taken on the responsibility of teaching him as my husband claims that he has ‘little to no patience to deal with it’.
A few days ago, my husband and mother in law were discussing how our son fidgets and has trouble staying focused so we should look into putting him on Ritalin. My husband agreed and said he will take our son to a doctor to get a prescription. I am livid, he should be discussing this with me instead of his mother. When I confronted him about it, he said that it would be much easier for everyone. I will not allow our child to be put on medication to be more manageable or compliant.
