Can I get pregnant on it pull out method

I had a pregnancy scare recently which I was totally OK with we both were kind of excited that we could be pregnant but yet again it was totally not expected and not planned so there was other nerves and worries about it. But definitely having a baby right now would not hurt us at all we were actually very excited but went to the doctor Monday and I was negative both of us were very upset because it had been a week since I had a positive test… I kind of really just want a baby now but kind of don’t wanna try right now. So just wondering how effective is the pull out method. I’ve googled it and it says one and five will get pregnant. But just warning some other peoples advice.
