Listen to your body!!

Courtney

So this may be a long one but I’m seeing a trend with doctors not listening!

Last Thursday (Feb 3) I had the chorionic villus sampling genetic test done. I was 11weeks 6days. It was done transcervically (through the cervix). I was given an aftercare sheet with phone numbers in case I have complications. Friday I had some painful cramping that didn’t last long but didn’t feel normal. I was also leaking some fluid that had no smell to it to distinguish what it was. I called the after hours doctor and she told me that if I was leaking anything it wouldn’t even show on an ultrasound yet since it’s such a small leak and it would most likely resolve itself. I drank some water and went to bed as she instructed. Over the weekend the leak didn’t stop but it wasn’t a ton. The cramping was minor so I figured I was just stretching due to getting to 12 weeks. Monday I called the facility the test was done at to see if I should have a follow up appointment and after calling 3 different people I had no answers. I called my OB and was told I just had to wait until my next appointment (Feb 28). Wednesday night I got tired of not having answers and still having the leaking and cramps so I called the nurse advice line our insurance has and they instructed me to go to urgent care. I went and they didn’t have the tools needed so they sent me to the ER. Luckily there was no amniotic leak and my baby is doing great but they found an infection most likely due to the genetic test and I have a UTI. I had a bladder leak from the UTI and that’s the fluid I was seeing and the UTI caused the cramping. I’m now on an antibiotic to clear them both up but the ER doctors were very surprised the facility didn’t schedule a follow up appointment to check on things. The ER doctors also said that if it was an amniotic fluid leak then it would definitely show up on ultrasound right away since I was only 12 weeks and there’s not a large amount of fluid yet. This long post is just a reminder to listen to your bodies! If you feel like something is wrong definitely get checked out!
