My 4 year is scared to eat
Last week my 4 year old began choking on a cheese stick she was eating. She usually eats string cheese like most kids do, (taking strings at a time) but this time she just took a big bite of it and began to choke. My husband and I both absolutely panicked, and started crying (looking back, both awful reactions that scared her even more) but I was able to do the Heimlich maneuver and she was fine. She was only choking for about 30 seconds, but those 30 seconds were easily the scariest moments of my whole life. Now it’s been a whole week, and she refuses to eat anything that isn’t yogurt or soup. She’s absolutely terrified. I’ve tried everything, i’ve explained to her multiple times that she’s not going to choke again and if she does, i’ll be right there and she will be okay. I’ve explained how choking & the throat works, i’ve tried cutting her pieces super super small to get her to eat it, i’ve tried literally everything. Has anyone else child gone through this? did they get over it? how long did it take?
