Advice on military relationships?

My bf and I have been together almost 3 years and he is leaving for the army, while I’m in college. We don’t know what the right thing to do is. We love one another and will support each other together or not. He’s leaving for 4 years in a few weeks, we’re not sure to endure a long distance relationship or be like besties until he comes back. We don’t know what the right/best thing to do is. Any advice?

My husband was in the Army, and we didn't really do the long distance thing since we got married once he came back from boot camp. But we did know others who did have long distance relationships and from my point of view, they did see each other often. So although 4 years total seems like a long time, it's not like he can't leave at all for 4 years or you can't see him. Obviously if he gets deployed that's a different story. And who knows maybe he will get stationed close to you! It's hard saying. But from what I know now, boot camp is completely different than when my husband did it. Now from what I've heard they're allowed to have their phones, so if that's the case atleast its better than waiting a month sometimes 2 for a letter in the mail. During boot camp though you want to be his peace. Either break up before he goes or after, but during it, you support him and you stay positive. They go through an extensive training and honestly, the last thing they want to do is worry about their girl back home. Same thing with deployments if you do ever make it to that. But just know I have seen and heard of many long time relationships lasting even for doing long distance.
