What grade is six 1/2 year old

Question

I'm wondering if at age six 1/2 children are enrolled in kindergarten or first grade?
Kindergarten is usually ages five and six so I'm wondering if being six months older is important 
Some enroll at age five 1/2 to kindergarten will turn six at the end of kindergarten be six 1/2 for first grade. If enroll kindergarten at age six will be seven years old for first grade

Ours is based on birthday…you can go to preschool if you turn 4 BEFORE September 15. So when my daughter is 6.5, she’ll be finishing Kindergarten and starting 1st grade after the summer.

My daughter is starting Kindergarten at 6 years old, her birthday is this June. I’m so glad I waited to enroll her! I think 6 1/2 could either be kindergarten or 1st grade. Good luck

It depends on their birthday and your school’s cutoff dates. In my district kids have to be 5 by September 1st. 
My daughter was born in the middle of the school year so she’ll be 5 and a half when she starts Kindergarten and 6 and a half when she starts 1st grade.

My birthday (Oct 12th 1990) is after the deadline so I had to wait a year to start Kinder. I was 6. My brother's birthday (August 21st 1991) is before the deadline. He started Kinder at 5. This is how we ended up in the same grade. Meanwhile my husband's birthday is before the deadline (July 25th 1990, so same year as my birthday) so he was able to start at 5. This is how we were born the same year but he was a grade ahead of me.

Most kids start K at age 5, but by law (in FL at least) they must be enrolled or homeschool registered the fall that they are already age 6. So there were kids in my son's kindergarten class who were already 6 at the start of the year, but most were 5.
