pool day

when going to the pool with a baby, 6 months, do you put them in a life jacket? we're a boating family so we have life jackets for him but wasn't sure if we should have him wear that, buy him a new float, or just hold him in the water. it'll be me, my husband, the 6 month old, and our 3 year old so any other advice for taking both kids to the pool would be greatly appreciated!
