Seriously should I change my name?

My name is Karen. Enough said.

I am 28 years old. I am a millennial. I am a kind person. I don’t fit the stereotype of my name but it is still my name and obviously has been since I was born. What society/pop culture has done to my name has absolutely devastated me.

Imagine your name, the one you have gone by your entire life, now meant “shitty person”

It sucks.

I’m embarrassed when people ask me my name. The comments I get about it are disheartening. I feel uncomfortable giving my name in any setting, hair appointments, over the phone, Starbucks, take out orders. And it really sucks because I have always loved my name. It’s my grandmas name and I was named after her.

However now, it’s just totally ruined. I’m genuinely concerned that I am going to be judged before people even know me. Like when it comes to job interviews or even if I’m in the hospital. If I ever have to “speak up” for myself I’ll be disregarded as “a Karen.”

So should I change my name? It sucks that I even have to but it just genuinely concerns me that I will be discriminated against because of it.
