My son has had nerf guns his whole life.
He’s 13 and still loves nerf guns 🤷🏻‍♀️
But we are also a pro 2-a family and our kids know about real guns, safety and laws.  They know toys are toys and real guns are not toys. 
It’s going to be different for every family. 
Everyone has a different comfort level.

A toy gun in my opinion is fine and it’s also a great conversation starter about real guns. We are a hunting family and  also have pistols. My kids know they are not allowed to touch and once older they will be taught how to safely handle them.

I would not give a child a gun. At any age actually. I don’t think it’s okay to role play any kind of violence. Some may think it’s extreme… but the way the world is turning out I would like to keep my kids innocent for as long as what I can

My son, just turned 5, has toy guns (nerf, water, etc). If he doesn't have a gun he'll pretend a stick or his fingers are one. I don't see a problem with it. We also explain to him the difference in a toy gun vs a real gun. 
Someone bought him water balloons for his birthday (which I despise), and I told him I'd rather him have some big super soaker guns than water balloons any day.

IMO, no. Guns are not too it’s and anything that resembles a gun is unacceptable for play. I don’t allow toy guns, nerf guns, or water guns. Ever.

I’m very against you guns for any kid any age. That’s just my personal opinion. My kids will never play with toy guns
