Do you think privatized education is superior to public?

I have the option to send my kindergartener to a private school in my area with very small classroom size and emphasis on STEM curriculum. It would cost monthly but just a few hundred because they give discounts to military and first responders and we are a military family. With all the problems in public school right now, would you think private may be better? My son is autistic with ADHD and I feel like he may get more attention and services in this private school.

There are flaws and problem in both systems. It also depends on location location location. 
Not all public schools are shit and not all private schools are superior. 
With that said, if you feel that private school would better suit your child’s needs and you can afford it, then go for it!

Do your research…some private school is very strict and will kick students out for behavior. They’ll have a no tolerance where public schools are mandated to continue education so suspension out of school is a very last resort. 
Be sure they’ll have the resources to meet your child’s needs., it can come down to the teacher you get. I’ve been a public school teacher for 12 years and for 7 of those worked with one of the most amazing special education teachers I’ve ever known. She was the biggest advocate for kids and taught me so much about special needs kids.

Sometimes kids get better attention in private school, but a lot of families with neurodivergent have said they get better services at public school. In large part because public schools are already tapped into a network of services. 
Obviously every school will be different, but private d(or public) doesn’t automatically mean “better”.

If your child weren’t neuro-divergent, it would be pretty great to send him or her to a private school with a STEM focus and smaller classes etc.  but as a family with a long history of neuro-divergence, many private schools that aren’t specifically set up for neuro-divergence are actually MUCH less supportive and offer far less support than many public school systems.  I would go to the administration of the private school and give a full and honest account of the learning differences of your child and ask to speak to parents of children with learning differences attending that school and so the same for the public schools.  
Our experience was that public schools were leaps and bounds better than private schools focusing on academic success.  On the other hand, private schools specifically  for neuro-divergent learning were better than public schools.

It entirely depends on the district and school. Some public schools are phenomenal. Some private schools are horrible. And vise versa. 
We have around 200 kids open enroll into our public district (about 100 students in a graduating class) because they like it better than the districts they live in. Go a few towns over and it’s a complete cluster. So it really just depends on the school.

Especially if your kid needs extra attention, I highly recommend the private school route. 
In my opinion private school is better for elementary school because they put a ton more emphasis on manners and being respectful (they tend to have stricter rules on how one should act). Once you get to middle school or high school, the benefit of going private over public diminishes, but private will almost always give your kid more attention than public.

I’ve done both. I’m also ADHD. i went to a private elementary and middle school and public highschool. I do think the education at a private school is superior. Not to sound pompous, but I was top 25 of my graduating class of 520 and high school just felt way too easy. I literally never did my homework, never studied and I had a 4.0 GPA and straight A’s. Private school however was completely unequipped to deal with any type of learning disability so I did not excel there as much as I did in high school. The class sizes being so small also made it difficult for me to make friends and I had a lot of problems with bullying. A lot of it was very cliquey. Being in a bigger school meant I blended in more and there were a lot more kids who were like me. I’m still friends with my highschool friends and it’s been 15 years.
