Do you use profanity around or to your children?

Do you use swear/cuss words around or at your kids? 
What makes you feel like it's acceptable or unacceptable?

Never AT my kids. But around them, yeah. I feel like it takes the power away from those words.

Yes. They are just words. Who determined that “fuck” is a bad one? I mean, we could link studies that show people who cuss have higher IQs. I find it strange to be fearful of a word. 
The only words we prohibit are slurs.

I try not to but I'm not perfect and let one slip every now and then. I would never use it to them though.

I don't tend to swear at all even before kids. I'm a teacher and I would hate if anything slipped out. I was also brought up around people that didn't really swear so it was never normal for me to.

Our house rule is words have meaning in the way you use them. So if my child falls and lets out an “oh shit!” I don’t care they said it. But if they are aiming it to use at someone in a negative way that’s not ok. Same with any words rooted in hate speech/racism etc.

Context is everything. If my kids repeat, then I have the convo again. We don’t use it at people, don’t use it around other adults, and we recognize that these words hold weight. And if they aren’t using it in the right context, they lose that privilege 😬😬😬 cuz clearly they aren’t understanding enough to use it

I don’t swear at them ever but I do try to not do it around them but it happens.

Around my children, yes, although we do try to curb it but that doesn’t always work but never at/to them. My daughter has said a few but we just ignore it and she usually doesn’t say it again since we didn’t make it taboo for her to say or something to rebel with, she is almost 3.
