Would you use your moms last name?

Question

I’m just curious if anyone has or would use their moms last name. My parents aren’t married, never have been. I don’t have her last name but my sister does and she gave her first daughter it.
I’m not married or anything, I was thinking of giving my soon to be daughter my last name which is my dads but I think I’ve set on giving her her dads last name which is also my oldest.
Anyway, what’s your opinion/thoughts on last names? Do you feel obligated for one over the other? (Of course if you’re probably married) would you choose your moms last name if it was that you didn’t have a father figure or baby either? I ask because I am Native American and my moms last name isn’t so common plus her tribe is very small and very few with her last name. Thanks for any thoughts/opinions.

If I had my father’s last name, but he wasn’t in my life, I probably would have asked to have my name changed to my mom’s awhile ago. And if I had kids and their father wasn’t in their life, I would give them my name.

I personally want the same last name as my kids, regardless of who's name it is. But if the father figure wasn't around 1000% baby would have my name.

If I never had a relationship with my father, absolutely.  If I was pregnant and dad wasnt involved, baby would have my last name. Why give a family name to a child if that man wants nothing to do with being that child's family?

My last name (pre-marriage) was hyphenated between my parents last names. After I got married, I dropped my dad’s last name and added my husbands which is our “family name” so that’s the name my kids have. 
Alternatively, we like to honor lost last names by making them middle names. My daughter (currently pregnant) will have my grandma’s maiden name as her middle name and if we were to have another daughter (we won’t, we’ve decided we’re done) their middle name would have been my MIL’s maiden name.

I strongly considered this. I was born with my mom’s last name but it got changed to my stepdad’s last name when I entered kindergarten. So when I had my son as a single mother I had three options. 1. The bio dad’s last name 2. My last name (my stepdad’s) 3. My birth name (my mom’s). Bio dad wasn’t involved so that didn’t make sense. My step dad’s name had no blood significance for my baby. My mom’s name would have continued her line as all other relatives had married and taken on their husband’s names and my one uncle had only daughters. In the end I choose my stepdad’s name mostly for the practical reason that it matches mine, but also I didn’t want to hurt the feelings of the man who raised me since birth. Names can be complicated. Think about what makes the most sense for your babe

I would if I was super close to my mom, not my dad or my babys dad.
Otherwise, I'd discuss giving the babe a hyphenated name or the dads last name if hes a good present father. 
I wish I would have given my kiddo my last name and her fathers last name. Not just his.

I’m lazy so I go with whatever is easiest or the default. The only time I’d consider changing my last name or using my moms last name instead of mine or my boyfriends is if one of our last names was Cock or Butts or something. 
I do have my grandmothers maiden name as my maiden name though which I am quite fond of.
